I came over to Wellington to join in the Tung Jung Association¡¯s 80th Anniversary celebrations this time last year and was very impressed by the collaboration and turnout. The corresponding association in Sydney is the Loong Yee Tong (comprised of Luen Fook Tong (Jungsing) and Goon Yee Tong (Dongguan) The story of Chinese Australians was mainly been told by Australians until recent years when the Chinese Australian Historical Society (Henry Chan was first president) and the Chinese Heritage Association of Australia (I am current president) were formed. Both these associations hold regular events and talks eg both groups have events during NSW 2007 Historyweek 15-23 September, www.historyweek.com.au As you can imagine there are many Chinese organizations in Australia . However, there are only a few that can or have the know-how to advocate on behalf of the Chinese Australian Community. I am hopeful that one newly formed group which I am involved with ¡°The Chinese Community Council of Australia Inc¡± will have more success in this role. CCCA was only incorporated in May 2007 but has already issued papers and media releases pertaining to issues that affect the Chinese community. A website subcommittee was formed at the last committee meeting and the domain name www.ccca.net.au obtained so the website should be up and running soon.
