Golden Enterprise: New Zealand Chinese Merchants
Cantonese merchants facilitated early Chinese immigration to New Zealand and their social and business networks laid the foundation of the Chinese community in the South Pacific. They played a major role in the making of Chinese New Zealanders against the background of New Zealand's changing relationships with China, Britain and others.
Li revisits New Zealand Chinese history from the 1860s to the 1970s, focussing on these merchants.
