CHINESE FOR SAMOA The New Zealand Premier has forwarded to the press of that colony an extract from the “Hong Hong Daily Press,” showing, as he says, "one heavy, deplorable result of New Zealand losing Samoa.” Owing to German, colonisation, Chinese are to be sent into that country in large, numbers, and to be brought within five days of this colony.” The extract, which is dated from Swatow;, 7th April, is as follows:—“Emigration to Samoa By the steamship.. Decima. there were, shipped to Apia, in the island of Samoa, about 300 Chinese coolies, principally - agriculturists and. laborers. This is an enterprise of the German Government to cultivate the fertile lands of Samoa, and I am told that further batches will; in course of be sent from here to that island. The first lot left here under charge of Mr Wandres, representing the German Government." The Ballarat Star 9 Jun 1903
