RIOT IN SAMOA. Chinese Tong Feud. WELLINGTON (N Z ), Wednesday. - Referring to the disturbince at Apia on Sunday, the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) said, in the House of Representa tves, that nearly 300 striking Chinese coolies interviewed the Chinese Commis sioner at his office Laler they appeared to disperse, but suddenly they attacked the police. Two white, and several Samoan police were unable to restrain the Chinese and a serioius riot developed. The police were in grave danger and were compelled to fire On the arrival of reinforcements the rioters dispersed , Ml Joseph Ward added that the strike arose owing to the differences between two rival Fix this texttongs. The membeis of one tong were striking to obtain the removal of a foreman, who was understood to be a leading member of another tong.
