CHINAMAN'S PRIVILEGE. By Telegraph, (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Oct. iB. Mr Malcolm (Clutha-) presented a unique petition from Kwok Wah Sui, a shop assistant'at Alexandra South praying for the refund of £IOO poll tax. Sui has-been a resident of Die Dominion for fivo years. Before leaving China he became betrothed to Wong Ah Ye in Canton. Being desirous of marrying his almond-eyed nay love he was informed by the Chinese missionary, Mr Don, that it was tho practice in such c a scs to refund the Poll tax paid on betrothed Chinese ladies on their being married according to the New Zealand laws.
