COMMOTION IN A SHOP.ASSAULT ON A CHINESE. I [B3T TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.} HAMILTON. Tuesday. An affray in a Chinese fruit shop in Hamilton East on April 16 led to the appearance of a young man named Arthur Vr Gate in Court yesterday charged with assaulting Wong On, and. with, committing mischief. '•Evidence was led i by the police to tneeffect that defendant and si, Chinese entered Wong On's shop and a3 altercation ensued. The police were summoned. Later in th© evening Gate called at the shop i again and showed his annoyance f' at Wong On's conduct in .summoning the police by pelting him ith apples and other fruit. -i;: Defendant 'denied assaulting the Chinas man, vor throwing the fruit. He admit-: 1 ted that he had been drinking. A conviction was entered on both counts, defendant being fined 10s. and ordered ,to pay costs and expenses totalling £3 6s 10d.
