FOREIGN STUDENTS
SCHOOL FEES ABOLISHED (0.C.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wed. Foreign students who are holders of students' permits will in future not be required to pay fees for attending at public primary schools, or for attending at post-primary schools if they are holders of free places. Advice to this effect was received by the Taranaki Education Board today from the Education Department In accordance with the Immigration Restriction Act, 1930, foreign students, including Chinese pupils, who entered New Zealand under a students' permit or temporary permit were required to pay to the Government the cost of their education. Such fees no longer require to be paid. The Department will not require, in future, any returns from head teachers in regard to Chinese pupils who are attending primary or post-primary schools.
