Gek Choo (Pearl) Tan
TAN, Gek Choo (Pearl). On 28 September 2011, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Sarah Selwyn Hospital, in her 74th year, after a valiant battle with cancer. Pearl and Yok Tan shared 56 years of loving marriage. She was a devoted mother to Mei and Sze, and an affectionate mother-in-law to David Upsdell. As a dedicated grandmother to Lian and Shanxi (and grandmother-in- law to Ife Omoniyi), she always set an example of rejoicing in their triumphs and showing patience with their trials. Pearl was a well-loved sister and sister-in-law to Soon Hin and Sylvia Yeo, and enjoyed being the aunt of Hock and Marie Yeo, Sharon and Vi Seng Lok and great-aunt of their children Philip, Hannah, Evelyn, Nicholas and Stephanie. "I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made Heaven and Earth." (Psalm 121 1-2.) A service will be held at the North Harbour Chapel of Dil's Funeral Services, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, Albany on Wednesday 5 October at 10.30am. The Family would like to thank the staff of Sarah Selwyn Hospital and Independent Services for the exemplary care and support Pearl received. In lieu of flowers, donations (tax- deductible) to the Chief Executive, the Selwyn Founation National Office, PO Box 44106, Point Chevalier, Auckland 1022, would be appreciated. Please include a note signifying that the donation is in remembrance of Pearl Tan.
