Where are they now, those colorful callers of yester- year, the men who called and delivered, the men who brought excitement into our young lives, laughter to our lips
Way Ham Wong was our Chinese greengrocer. He wore a perpetual grin and a large straw hat. He called me Daisy, which was the name of our street, and always insisted that I was "belly clebber" - can't think why!
He sold us carrots and parsnips for ld a bunch, and cabbages for 3d. He had such wonderful watermelons and peaches.
He had a lovely fat horse called (as near as we could understand) Bunglung. Wong sometimes gave us crackers, and at Christmastime Ma received a pretty green jar with cane handles. It was filled with ginger in luscious syrup - oh la la! The Australian Women's Weekly Wednesday 7 June 1967
