On arrival at the station the Chinese were searched, and their names were taken down with the assistance of William Ah Tong, who rendered much | assistance as interpreter. A considerable sum of money was taken from the Chinese, amounting in all to over £150. The following are the names of the Chinese arrested, with the amounts of money found in their possession:— Ah Chung, £54 14/; Ah Que. nil; Willie Fong, 1/; Ah Wy, £9 17/6;r.Ah Foy, 4/9; Ah Chung, £54 14/; Ah Sun, 14/; Willie Ah Chee, 1/6;. Hem Yung, 5/6; Quang Yen, 2/3j; Harry Wong, 1/; Ah Cheong, £7; Ah Sin, nil; Ah Lee, 1/3; Harry Bing, 1/; Charlie Lin, nil; Ah Doong, 9/6; Ah Yum, £61 15/; Sue Hung, £1 0/6; Yet Gee, 10/6; Sung Chung, £13 12/6; Ah Yu, Id; and Air Shek, the keeper of the house. A large number.of other Chinamen also came down to station to bail out the accused, but after it had been arranged to bail out about ten of them, these declined to come out of the cells unless tthe whole of the prisoners were _ released; . consequently the twenty-two spent the night in the cells. One of the prisoners, Quong Yen, was employed as cook on the paddlesteamer Wakatere, and he was in a great state of distress concerning the crew's breakfast this morning. He had the keys of the steamer's pantry in his pocket. Two of the prisoners had intended to leave for Sydney this evening by the s.s. Waihora, on their way back to Canton, China. These men were Ah Chung and Ah Yum. The former had a bank-book sewed into his waistcoat and a pile of sovereigns in a belt. Ah Yum had sixty-one sovereigns in his possession. WONG YU.—On September Ist, 1898, at his residence, Wollesley-street, William Yong Yu; aged 62 years.
