AH LOO AS "CHEF."
The Dodson family, in. consequence of fcheir failure to obtain a cook, engaged a bland Chinaman to serve in that; capacity. Ah' Loo's first culinary effort was a stew that was a pronounced success. "Ah," sighed Dodson, after the meal, "that was a jolly tasty stew! I wonder if its foundation was chicken or ham?" He called for Ah Loo, who professed to know but little of the English tongue. "Cluck, cluck, chuik?" queried Dodson, pointing to the empty dish. Ah Loo shook his pig- tailed head. ,"Bah, bah, bah, then?" persevered Dbd- j Hon. Then Ah Loo woke up. ' ', "No jam fear," said he. " Him bow, bow, bow!" When Dodson felt well enough, Ah Loo got the sack, but the little pug dog that once graced the household of the Dodsons snores on the- rug no more !
