To cover up the reason for the assault Burton .dragged the name of his young daUghter through the Police Court. Although he stated that he did not believe Burton's story, the Magistrate let him off with a flrie of £10 William Qeorge. Burton, to give the "Peanut King" his full name, was charged before Magistrate T. E. Maunsell with assaulting Ngan Tons, ami pleaded not.guilty It appeared that on the evening Of March Burton entered laundry in Charles Street— run on behalf of "Jimmie and Co." by- Ngan Tong — and demanded his collars. One of the witnesses thought that Burton had "had one or two" and that may have accounted for the affair. Ngan Tong had never seen Burton's collars, and Burton, had no ticket to prove that he had left his collars at the laundry. ' NZ Truth , Issue 1061, 25 March 1926, Page 9
