There are nineteen Chinese living in one Chinese gardener's cottage at the Hutt. This fact was ascertained by the Borough Inspector m inquiring into the insanitary state of the place. The occupants he mentioned, started to work at once on the improvements which the Inspector insisted upon. Councillor Leighton pointed out that a station-holder had to provide so much air-space for shearers, and surely the same law applied to a Chinese gardener.
