FONG MOY AND HIS FOWLS.
THE POULTRY-YARD BY-LAW. j A celestial of more than ordinary intelligence and shrewdness appeared at 1 the Magistrate's Court this morning on j a charge of keeping poultry within the I city limits without a license, contrary !to the by-law. The Chinaman, who , spoke exceedingly good __oglish, said that he had first commenced poultry! keeping at the Chinese New Year, and ' bought the fowls solely for immediate i killing. He was now in the habit of i buying fowls each week and killing !them off as required. Mr Massey, • city ijisrjcctor. pointed out that by this means Fong Moy, the defendant, was continually keeping fowls and them housed close alongside a workshop, whereas the by-law specified that they must be kept 30ft away from any building..
