A SHOCKING THEFT.
Dunedin, October 31. The Naseby correspondent of the "Times" wires that a shocking and mean theft was committed between Saturday night and Monday morning. Some time ago Joe Fong, a Chinese storekeeper, died, and was reported to be worth a few hundred pounds. The body was prepared as usual for transport to China, and authority came to hand to disinter it. Before burial several gold coins were placed in the coffin, and gold in the pocket and hands. It was ascertained to-day that the grave had been tampered with, the sexton's hut had been broken open, and a pick taken, with, which the coffins were broken open. Whether all the gold was secured could not bo made certain to-day. Colonist, Volume XLVII, Issue 11172, 1 November 1904, Page 4
