Auckland, 23th September. A Chinaman named Lee Chong was arrested at Devonport today, upon a charge of assault with intent to commit rape upon a married woman named Hannah Meyer, wife of a market gardener and small farmer, near Lake Takapuna. On Sunday afternoon the husband saw the acoused throw his wife down, and attempt the crime. Acoused offered £3 to quare the matter, but his arrest was the outcome.
