COOK ASSAULTED
FOUR FILIPINOS CHARGED Four Filipino seamen, Conrado Santos, aged 30, Felix Dayrit, aged 26, Valerian Castillo, aged 27, and Tito Febrero Macabanti, from an oversenfs ship, appeared in the Police Court yesterday to answer charges of assaulting a Chinese cook, Jip Hong, on July 27. On behalf of the accused, Mr. Butler denied tho offences. Two interpreters were employed. Senior-Sergeant Joyce said the four men allegedly entered tho kitchen of a Chinese cafe in Grey Street and assaulted tho cook when he ordered them to .leavo. The cook suffered head injuries. Tho four accusod said tho Chinese threatened them with a stick. When this was taken from him by Dayrit, lie picked up a hatchet, and this was taken from him by Castillo. He then trick to pick up a knife, but was disarmed. Macabanti and Castillo were each fined £-3. the charges against the other two accused being dismissed.
