ASSOCIATION'S GATHERING.
CHINESE TENDER A BANQUET.
A dinner in honour of the visiting footballers was hold in the Albert Hotel on Saturday evening, Mr. A Menzies, chairman of the Auckland Football Association, presiding. Besides the Chinese and New Zealand teams, the North Auckland and Auckland elevens were also present. Responding to the toast of the visitors the manager of the Chinese team, Mr. A. E. Dome, thanked not only the Football Association but the people of Auckland generally for the particularly kind manner in which the Chinese had been received. _ Referring to the game Mr. Dome said his team had undoubtedly played the best game so far of the tour, and he was delighted with their display. If they could go on improving like that lie was more than ever confident of winning the next test match in Wellington. The coach of the team. Mr. Wong Tin Silt, when specially called upon, gave one of the original and witty speeches for which he has become famous on the tour. His quaint delivery and whimsical remarks caused much merriment.
A banquet, tendered by tha Chinese residents of Auckland to the visiting Chinese universities team, was attended last evening by about 150 persons, of whom eight were European guests. The function, which was held in the clubroom of the Auckland branch of the Chinese Nationalist Party at 234, Hobson Street, was presided over by the president of tho branch, Mr. N. Fong. Speeches of farewell were given in Chinese tongue bv chairman, the Rev. Mawson, and prominent Chinese residents, and were responded to by Mr. A. E. Dome, tho team's manager, and Mr. Wong Tin Sik, the coach. A Chinese orchestra played throughout the evening, and a vocal programme was contributed to by local Chinese talent. Hie festive board was spread with a great variety of quaint Chinese delicacies. On Saturday morning tho visitors were taken in c'crhfc motor-cars round the North Shore, v'. .ing the various beaches and places of interest. The Chinese team leave to-morrow morning for Hamilton, where they play a match against South Auckland on Wednesday.
