CHINESE AND THE HOSPITAL The Chinese residents in ,Christchnreh and the neighbourhood have again made a substantial donation to the Christchurch hospital. It -has been their custom for A number of years to subscribe a sum of money for this purpose, in recognition of the benefits conferred by the hospital, and this year the subscription amounts to £12 14s 6a. It must not be inferred from this tliat the Chinamen who may be taken to the hospital pay nothing for their treatment while there; on the contrary, they pay the full ward charge of 4s a "day, so that the subscribed donation is purely in the nature of a. gift.
