MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Richard Ernest Love pleaded guilty to having assaulted Arthur Chang, a Chinese boy, on Saturday last. Senior-Sergeant Jackson Mad that accused had entered the slop of a Chinese fruiterer, and after buying some oranges, had commenced to "shy" them at the Chinese boy who had served him. One of the oranges struck the boy on the face, raising a slight lump. Accused's story was that he had found fault with one of the oranges sold to him, and the boy thereupon became impertinent, telling accused that if the oranges were bad they were like himself. Accused then, on the spur of the moment, threw the oranges back at the boy. Accused was convicted and fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment. LYTTELTON NEWS.
