AT MANAIA The Town Hall was packed with children, parents, and friends for the prizegiving the ceremony being performed by Mrs. Dakers. wife of the chairman of the commttee. The members were also present on the stage. The first part of the proceedings took the form of a capital programme of musical and elocutionary items by the children, in classes under the vari. ous teachers. These included musical and character sketches, choruses, a play in three acts, and other items. All were capitally done and were received with the utmost enthusiasm by the large audience. The prizes were then presented, tne chairman remarking on the number and value of the prizes given, which, he said, had not been the case for many years. He said that the work utme by Mr. Adams and his staff had been first-class, and had made a record which would be hard to beat and off which Manaia people should be exceedingly proud. Mr. Kitt donated a large tin of lolies For the children, and Mrs Lush large quantity of nuts. Before the gathering broke Mr Dakers expressed the appreciation of" the committee for all that had beem done for the school, congratulated al who were responsibtey for the very complete arrangements and wished all the teachers a merry Christmas, and pleasant holiday. He also once more congratulated Mr and Mrs Adams on all they had done, and wished them bon voyage" and happiness wherever - they might be. The events were supervised by the senior brigade, and the junior brigade well acquitted "themselves and are to be congratulated. The prizes were donated by the citizens. BREAKING AND ENTERING. Leslie Hansen and Donald McKay were charged by the police with breaking and entering the shop of Louis, ."Te Kitt and Louis, of Manaia, and -stealing money and valuables of a total -value of about £11. Sergeant Henry conducted the case' for the police and Mr. ODea appeared , - lor the accused. j Daniel Louis, one of the firm of Louis, i Te Kitt and Louis, of Manaia, stated ; i 'that he left his shop on Sunday, July j i -9, at 7;30 p.m. On Monday morning I Jie returned, and first noticed that the I window was open and the wire netting I .window covering had been broken. He j next. found the back door open and j about £8 in mixed money, which had i ieen left in a tin on a shelf, missing. Two pounds in a bag and about 15s in ] " the till, together with tobacco, cigarette ! and lollies, had also been taken. Constable Scannell stated that he! " found on examining the premises that j - the shop had been broken into. AN INTERESTING DISPLAY,
RECORD ENTRIES
The twenty-sixth annual show of the Waimate Horticultural, Agricultural, Pastoral, Produce and Industrial Society was held on the Manaia Recrea^tion Grounds yesterday. The total entries in the various classes surpassed all previous records for the society's show, and, favoured with ideal weather conditions, one of the largest crowds which have visited it in recent years was in attendance during the day. .
