Chinaman Chased Shop -thief CAUGHT OUT (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) Chinamen may "no savvy" to some things, but they soon "savvy" when anyone attempts to get away with their property. TT was because Samuel McShane tried •*• to "take down" Ngan Chee, of Ngan Chee and Co., fruiterers, of Lambton Quay, for £1/19/4 that Mc- Shane is now m gaol. McShane faced Mr. E. Page, S.M.; m the Wellington Court on a charge of theft. Ngan Chee said that he was having breakfast with another Chinese m the back, of his shop when they heard a noise like the opening of a till. ' He saw McSharie with his hand m the till so calling to the other Chinaman he dashed out of the shop after the culprit. Down the Quay ran McShane and after him m his apron dashed Ngan Chee. . McShane took the Quay crossing m a bound, raced along Ballance Street and into Featherston Street with the infuriated Oriental close behind. McShane. turned into • Whitmore Street and disappeared into a building. People within realising that the Chinaman was after McShane and that the latter was up to no good pushed McShane outside.
