The Taranaki Herald says : "A Chinese fruiterer m New Plymouth has received a typewritten letter warning him and his companions to leave New Plymouth before June 14th, under certain pains and penalties. The writer disclaims any intention to follow the example of Lionel Terry, but advises the Chinese to clear out. This is an exceedingly stapid joke, which may get its author into trouble. The Chinese m New Plymouth are lawabiding citizens, who are entitled, to and no doubt will receive the protection of the police, m wliose hands . tho matter has been placed. New Zealand admits Chinese to the colony, taking their nioney by way of poll-tax; and as long as that is so', and the Chinese behave themselves, they have as much right here as the white man. Whether tlvey are desirable colonists is another matter, which does not enter .into the question at present."
