Napier's rendezvous for the yellow heathen waa disturbed on Sunday evening by a police raid and as a sequel Ah Fong, a diminutive, wizened Chinaman, appeared, before Magistrate R. W. Dyer at the Napier Police Court on Tuesday, charged with having opium in his possession suitable for smoking. In company with Senior-Sergeant O'Halloran and Constable Wilton," said Plain-clothes Constable Martin. "I visited a laundry in Emerson Street on Sunday evening. There were about three dozen Chinese present in one room and Ah Fong was about to throw something out of the window when I caught his arm. He hold a bottle of opium and we found A SMALL TIN OF IT; a heater and two pipes. The man said that it had been given to him and he was about to throw It away." Senior- Sergeant O'Halloran said that pipes and a small tin of opium were i found. The visit was made on account of Information received. The Collector of Customs, William Rose, said that the accused, who had three previous conviction, always told the same story. "This sort of thing: cannot go on," commented the Magistrate when im' posing a fine of £30 and 7/- costs. "Too much, too much," exclaimed the Chinaman.
