NO CAUSE TOR COMPLAINT FOUND. DISPUTES OVER PEASTICKS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. Statments made in the House- of Representatives by Sir Apirana Ngata concerning Maori girls, working for Chinese market gardeners, living under immoral conditions, have been found by investigations made by a 'reporter and by social workers to be incorrect in so far as the Thames district is concerned. There have been Maori girls working for Chinese gardeners in both Thames and Kirikiri during the tomato season, but invariably they have been accompanied in the fields by parents, and escorted home to the pas. The Maoris appear satisfied with the wages agreements with Chinese, but are at variance with them over contracts for the supply of peasticks and tomato stakes, of which Thames supplies most of those used in the Chinese gardens in Auckland suburbs. These are procured by Maoris and sold by the Chinese to their compatriots on commission, and the amount of the commission usually has caused disputes. Otherwise, both races are working harmoniously.
