My great grandfather came to new zealand from Canton I believe in 1914. His name was Yee On Foo. He was married to Chin Kow Ting. My Grandfather was Stan Yee Keng who resided in Dunedin and then Christchurch. I would like to know any information about why my great grandfather came to New Zealand. My Grandfather (Stan Yee Keng later owned a Chinese restaurant in High Street called the shanghai Cafe. He has relatives in Aruba also. Any information would be appreciated

Deb, was the Yee family from Si Yip? Do you know much about the family? Did ggf arrive in Dunedin direct? What business was he in, in Dunedin?
I believe that the Chinese who arrived from the Canton area to Dunedin were involved in the Gold mining industry. If you can tell me more about the dates, the language they spoke, I may be able to help you a bit further.
I don't see his name on the Poll tax records. Was your gf born in NZ or did he also come out around the same time?
