Rising Dragon, Soaring Bananas” International Conference
New Zealand Chinese Association (Auckland Branch) Inc. is very pleased to advise that planning has commenced for a further Banana event entitled “Rising Dragon, Soaring Bananas”. This conference is being organised in conjunction with the International Society for the Study of Chinese Overseas (ISSCO) and will again be held at the new University of Auckland Business School on 18 – 19 July 2009.
The programme will be an unique combination of personal experiences presentations by high profile achievers from the local Chinese community with expertise in a very wide range of endeavours and an analytical approach of trends and outcomes from Chinese academics who are mainly members of ISCCO from many parts of the world. Further details about ISSCO can be obtained from their website issco.info:80/
In addition, there will be two internationally renowned keynote speakers to start proceedings each day with themes of contemporary topical interest to all potential participants, plus a further Short Story Competition which attracted many entries at our 2007 Conference.
There will be a Call for Papers being issued shortly asking for abstracts to be submitted by the end of November 2007 based on the following themes :
Chinese & Indigenous Interactions
China Under the International Spotlight
Free Trade Agreement – Dancing with the Dragon
Accidental Oriental – Exploration of Identity
What Place Chinese Language & Culture?
The Implications of China Rising
The Powers of Chinese International Philanthropic Organisations
Building Bridges Between Old & New Migrants
Creative Chinese – The New Cool
The conference partnership with ISSCO will help bring Chinese New Zealanders into the spotlight of a global stage with ISSCO members from throughout the world participating and presenting papers which will highlight the experiences of Chinese diaspora in many countries.
It will be an event not to be missed, so please mark your calendar with the conference dates and keep watching this website for further details.
