Refusal To Take Delivery
THE UNWANTED DAUGHTER.
From "Truth's" New Plymouth Rep.)
Many a prospective father and mother too for that matter, imbued with a future All Black has been bitterly disappointed when the doctor or nurse has reported a fine girl. They have, however, had to make the best of it and look forward to better luck next time, only perhaps to be again disappointed. A Chinaman at the small river port of Waitara previously noted mainly for perfume, manufactured by Us freezing works and Its champion football team, has solved tho difficulty. Having two fine daughters already, ho eagerly looked forward to his wife presenting him with a son. probably with a view to insisting to keep Waitara at the top of tho football firmament. When tho nursing homo reported a girl John absolutely refused to accept delivery and was very annoyed when tho matron of the nursing home insisted that she did not want it either and that John must take delivery of It. John, however, declined to accept another girl and as the supply of that color was exceedingly limited it was impossible for the stork. If there ls one m connection with Chinese babies, to make a mistake. The question wob what to do with tho child. Waitara business men had visions of the local auctioneer putting it up for public sale as ls done m cases where delivery 1b refused of other goods m a business way and it would have beon interesting to see tho knight of tho hammer expatiating on its many good points. However, the difficulty was overcome for the time by tho Salvation Army Stepping In and taking charge of the girl.
John, however, will probably he made to realise that he Is In a whito man's country and that he ennnot shirk his responsibilities ln this way and that when he takes a risk either In business or private life, he must be prepared to accept the consequence.
