A New Zealand-born Chinese, Norman Gee Dong, fruiterer, applied for exemption on the grounds of hardship. Counsel for appellant said he understood that New Zealand-born Chinese were not to be called up for service overseas. He suggested that the appeal should be adjourned sine die, on the understanding that the reservist would do his Territorial training when called upon. The board agreed to this course.
