GABRIELS.
A meeting of the Gabriels Licensing Committee was held on Saturday last. Present Messrs Campbell (Chairman), Harrop, Luke, Docherty and M 'flattie. The following licenses were granted Thomas Pope, Uuion Hotel, Wetherstones road R. G. Fulton, Golden Age Hotel, Wetherstones Sam Chew Lain, Chinese Camp Hotel Olivia Hopkins, Thistle Hotel, Evans Flat William Johnston, Evans Flat Hotel; R. G. Grieve, Grieves Hotel, Blue Spur Duncan Beaton, Blue Spur Hotel. A wholesale license was also granted to Qui Hing, Chinese Camp. The police were highly complimented on the manner in which they had exercised their surveillance over the different hotels, thereby keeping the conduct of the same up to an excellent standard of efficiency. A suggestion was throwu out that it would be better if some one to represent the licensed victuallers were present at the meetings. Hotelkeepers were reminded of the terms of the Act as to lights being kept burning at night and also as to having their signboards conspicuous and in terms of the Act.
