www.oaklandchinatownhistory.org/ OAKLAND CHINATOWN HISTORY Welcome to the Oakland Chinatown History web site, made possible by a grant from the California Council for the Humanities’ California Stories Fund, and sponsored by the Oakland Public Library. This site features transcripts of the personal histories and photos of some Chinese born in Oakland, California, in the 1910s and 1920s. Largely unsung, they represent a generation that bridges the gap between the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act generations and those that came along after World War II. Through their words and photos, you will gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese experience in California. You will also find a brief overview history of Oakland’s Chinatown, information about an unprecedented photo history book, Images of America: Oakland’s Chinatown, and links to other sites. -- William Won
