On Friday evening a Chinaman named Ching Choy stabbed a comrade named Charlie Fat on the side with the blade of a pair of sheep shears, inflicting a wound four inches deep and two inches wide. Constable King was at once sent for and arrested the culprit. It appears that Ching Choy owed Charlie, some money and had asked for payment, and after a few words Ching Choy stabbed him with the shear blade. The prisoner was brought up at the J.P. Court on Saturday morning, and was remanded for seven days. Otago Witness , Issue 1819, 1 October 1886, Page 16
